My Other Cat

Tuga demonstrates her superior Play Dead skills…

I have written a couple posts about my cat named Tober so if you don’t know me well you might think that I only have one cat.

In truth I have two cats. Tober and Tuga: brother and sister from the same litter. They are both extremely friendly: so much so that I joke that I actually have two puppies who happen to be cat-shaped, and I love them both equally, it just so happens that I’ve had better stories to tell about Tober so far.

So meet Tuga. Through a series of head-bonks and elaborate somersaults on your ankles she says “hi” back. She will then climb up your front to drape herself across your shoulder drooling with delight. And I do mean drooling. There will be wet spots.

I call Tuga my armpit cat because if you hold her long enough she will eventually stick her head in your armpit and fall asleep. I’m not sure what the appeal is, but she seems to like it.

Tuga is usually the boss in our household: when the food dishes go down Tober will sit to one side while Tuga samples food from both plates and will then step in once she walks away. If you were to see the two of them you would realize how strange this is: Tober outweighs Tuga by four or five pounds. In human terms would be like Reese Witherspoon bossing around Vin Diesel (although by all accounts Vin Diesel is a superlative gentleman so maybe this wouldn’t be surprising at all).

This territoriality has evidently extended to The Humans. My lap belongs to Tober, while my husband belongs to Tuga. If we are sitting side by side on the couch Tuga will make a point of sitting on my husband: his shoulder, his chest, his stomach, his side… she isn’t picky. My husband does Not Like Cats, but Tuga either doesn’t know this or else doesn’t care: he is her Special Friend.

Tuga loves cheese and spaghetti noodles. Hobbies include climbing-on-tall-stuff, looking cute (like Nermal cute- it’s almost disgustingly cute), and taking naps in armpits. Pet peeves include smoke detectors. The place she would most like to visit is Outside, although she doesn’t know what she will do when she gets there.
