Big Black Eyes

No, I'm not pleading, I've just been to the eye doctor's.

No, I’m not pleading, I’ve just been to the eye doctor.

So this is what a blog looks like when typed by someone who has just had her eyes dilated. I’m going to go ahead and apologize in advance for any typos or misspellings.

The thing about getting one’s eyes dilated is that it makes it very difficult to read things up close. This is not a usual problem for me- as someone who has lived most of her life at the extreme end of nearsightedness I was always the one squinting to see past the end of my nose. This temporary reversal of the natural order of things is novel, but annoying, because I am suddenly realizing just how much close-up stuff I do. Blogging, reading, drawing, writing, playing Candy Crush on my phone, etc. all take place at the end of my arm’s reach.

So anyway, I’m sitting in a Starbucks within walking distance of the eye doctor’s office with pupils the size of dinner plates waiting for the world to come back into focus. The doctor’s visit was a routine follow up and the news was good, which is a relief for someone who has just poured a large amount of money into a graduate program for filmmaking… nothing if not a visual medium.

I am actually waiting to meet a new acquaintance who I had the pleasure of meeting back in July but am just now getting around to meeting. After that I need to go pick up veggies from our Community Sustained Agriculture program and after that will either be a lunchtime meeting at an Innovation Media Lab (if I can get there in time) or going straight to class. All in all a bit of a marathon day following close on the heels of the marathon day that happened yesterday.

If I’ve learned nothing else it is that Tuesdays are not a good day to be overloading with errands and tasks because it gives me no time to catch up with myself. Now that I’m committing so much of my time to schooling the Curmudgeonly Lion and I need to figure out basic elements of housekeeping like who is in charge of picking up groceries and how often do the dishes need to be done.

LOL: The sun just came out and it was blinding, so I had to put on my sunglasses. So now I’m sitting in a Starbucks, blogging and wearing sunglasses indoors… I’ve accomplished a new, ironic, cool.
