Friday At Last

This is going to be me in 5…4…3…2….

I’m sure that I’m not alone in looking forward to the weekend, followed by a short week, followed by a long weekend. Usually I find myself realizing that it is Friday with a feeling of surprise because the week flew past me almost without my noticing it. This week seems to have done just the opposite: crawling forward day by day towards the distant promise of some time to myself at home.

I blame this partly on the fact that I spent last week as the cinematographer for a classmates film. I don’t regret this at all- the footage got a good response during the dailies screening (we dodged the dailies scrum!) and the story for the film is very solid and, I think, is going to hit a lot of people in the gut.

The only down side was that I spent all my time on set instead of catching up with things that needed doing around the house. For example, laundry. My wardrobe is closing in on swimsuits-for-underwear and is-it-really-too-cold-to-wear-capris-these-days with a fair amount of urgency. So I’m looking forward to having some time to gather my wits and organize my house again.

The Curmudgeonly Lion has been a great help with things  helping to manage that dirty-dish problem that seems to keep cropping up in the kitchen sink like a fungus. He also took over the grocery shopping for the week, which is good because our respective lunches were steadily progressing from sandwich+fruit+veggie+cookies to sandwich+cheez-its+trail mix+halloween candy.

My eating habits have not been stellar in the month of November. Convenience has begun to trump nutrition more and more often. Meals have begun to evolve into a series of snacks wolfed down on the breaks between classes- if I remember to eat at all. There was even a day when lunch consisted (unwisely, as it turns out) of coffee and cupcakes and the class that followed was spent fighting off coffee jitters and a blood sugar crash.  On the plus side I’ve lost ten pounds. On the minus side I might be developing scurvy.

But I think that I’ll be able to regain some control during the coming holiday week. Good food. Time to rest. No plans to travel. I’ve never been so excited to stay home and do nothing.
