The Path Forward

I keep drinking coffee trying to keep myself awake.

It was a long weekend, so I ought to be plenty well rested, but yesterday went late and today started early so I am outside my normal routine which always throws me for a loop. I have a little down time at the moment so I wanted to make the most of it and write something, but I don’t have anything in mind to write about. Ironically I’m heading into writing class in half an hour or so.

Yesterday was the first half of an “Advisement Session” designed to guide us graduate students in our courses for the next few years of the program as we begin to choose what track we want to follow. We were emailed about twenty pages worth of written material to read up on beforehand in order to come prepared. I did so and was moderately confused by it all. By the time I left the Advisement Session I was completely confused.

In the grand scheme of things, it won’t matter what track I commit to: the degree awarded is the same either way: MFA in Film Production. Directing is my priority. Producing will probably be my bread-and-butter. I’m not dead set on directing a Thesis film. I have a vested interest in Comedy and Transmedia. These seem like straightforward goals, but the paths to accomplishing them are so varied that the way forward isn’t clear.

Mostly these advisement sessions are just getting me all worked up about a path that will probably become clear as I move along. I still need to meet with an adviser for the track(s) that I am most interested in which will probably be where I’ll get the appropriate details anyway.

Well, this isn’t my most inspired post, but I might as well put it up anyway. Some days you just gotta grind the grist. Today seems to be one of those days, writing wise. Writing is such a strange alchemy.
