Spring Forward

It’s technically my Spring Break now. It started yesterday and I was looking forward to getting caught up on some of the tasks that I’ve been putting off for the past two and a half months. Taxes. Smog tests. Basic housekeeping. Laundry. Maybe a nap or a run now and then.

So far, however, life hasn’t slowed down: it seems to have sped up; as evidenced by my failure to blog for three days in a row now. I thought that I would get around to it on Thursday but spent a full day in classes, then went home to eat dinner, then went back out to a St Paddy’s Day/ midterm/ wrap party with my classmates and some of the actors from my film. It was a good time and I  was glad that I went but the Curmudgeonly Lion and I didn’t get home until the wee hours and feel into bed, exhausted.

Friday was the Curmudgeonly Lion’s birthday so I spent the day out and about with him. We did a late breakfast at Porto’s then went to the beach in Malibu for a few hours. (Then spent a few more hours in traffic.) We made it home and had dinner and then fell into bed, exhausted.

Beginning to see a pattern? I am.

Today we got up early in order to help out at the LA Women’s Film Festival: this year being held at the Woodbury University in Burbank. It is festival that we’ve helped out with before and this year we got the call at the last minute and agreed help out for a day.  Which is to say I agreed and the Curmudgeonly Lion went along with it, bless him.

It’s a worthy cause and I’m pleased to help out but about halfway through the afternoon the momentum of the past few days caught up with me and I just wanted to like drown and begin that mapping business I mentioned a few paragraphs ago.

I have to say, though, it is interesting watching all these films through Graduate Film Student eyes. I already drive the Curmudgeonly Lion crazy with my critiques of movies and television that we watch. I’m sure he probably refrains from rolling his eyes as much as he really wants to for my sake.  But it’s impressive how high the quality of the filmmaking is on many of these films and the range of stories that are being told.

Anyway, this is really just my long winded excuse for not writing the past few days so I’d better wrap it up and post it. Surely vacation will begin tomorrow. 🙂
