Grey Twilight

Photo not related- just feeling nostalgic for Chicago.

It’s a Saturday and I had the day off even though it is a production weekend. We were on location shooting a scene until late last night and will be on location shooting a scene early tomorrow, so I was grateful to have the down time. Now that I’m out of my twenties I’ve become less and less flexible with my sleep schedule. It takes me a lot longer to recover from a late night than it used to. So today was largely made up of me sitting like an unmotivated blob on the couch watching animated movies on FX.

I did do a little laundry- it’s been weeks and I was very, very literally down to my last pair of pants. The heap in the closet was nearly thigh height and was beginning to form drifts. There was probably six loads worth but I limited myself to only doing three: more than three loads at a time and I start getting resentful and sullen and I didn’t really have the energy for a bad mood.

I tried to do a little writing, but mostly found myself staring off into space. Then I took a very successful nap with the cats: the apartment complex was unusually quiet today for a Saturday- there was no little kid running around upstairs and no loud family parties in any of the nearby units blasting music and walla-ing away in Spanish. It was a rare window of domestic tranquility.

Without the intrusion of loud background noises to wake me up I slept longer than I intended. It was seven pm and nearly sunset by the time the Curmudgeonly Lion came into the room to see what the cats were yowling about (the cats have been very chatty lately). I had meant to get up half an hour earlier in order to go for a run, as I usually find it easiest to run right around sundown. It was later than I’d intended, but still quite light out, so after a few minutes of dithering I decided to go for a run after all.

I don’t know what it is about running in the grey twilight that makes the run so easy for me. It was one of the freest runs I’ve had in a long time. Granted, I only get to run once or twice a week, which is not conducive to keeping in the best of shape, but runs like the one this evening are the runs that make it worth it.

It may not have been my most productive day ever, but it felt like a good day. Nothing like a good run to make you feel like you’ve accomplished something.
