Hubbub

I went down into the post production lab to put a class assignment up on the sound server before class this evening. Evidently, I chose both the right and the wrong time to be in post production: the larger labs are full of classes and all the other stations are filled with students working on the final picture edits of their projects that are due later in the week. I was lucky enough to get downstairs early enough to get a station, but unlucky enough to now find myself crammed into a room with all my closest coughing, sneezing, loud-talking, stressed friends.

It’s probably good that class starts in half an hour so I won’t be here long.

In the meantime, though, I’m trying to use the time wisely (since I have a station) to edit together a directing reel for tomorrow night’s class. At the moment, files are importing into Avid so there isn’t much to be done except wait and watch the progress bar move from left to right with one eye and watching the clock with the other. Writing a post seemed like a good way to multi-task so that I don’t fall into the trap of procrastinating that I did on Saturday. Not that I have any good ideas or that I can concentrate with all the hubbub. But at least I have a deadline!

Most of my day has been spent down in post production. During the afternoon I assisted on a class showing the students how to use the foley stage and what a final sound design should look like. I emerged around five thirty to see the last dying rays of sunlight and decided that it was worth taking a thirty minute break to eat and stare at something besides a computer screen for a while. Then it was right back down to the grind.

So, I apologize that this isn’t the most deeply thought-out post, but at least I got it written. I’ll try to do better tomorrow.
