Home Labor

It turns out that there’s nothing as motivating as hosting a party to get things done around the house- even if the party is as casual as a backyard cookout for Labor Day. I’m true introvert fashion, we made the plans for the party with good intentions and then spent the rest of the week stewing about them: would there be enough food? Would we get the boxes cleared away? Would the floors still be that dirty?

By midday we were snapping at each other as the pressure mounted- how did we want the tables set up? Where were we going to put the trash can? Ok, well where do you think we should put it? In the end we finished our preparations early and the party was a big, low key success. And the house is probably the cleanest that it will ever be.

Tomorrow the working week begins again and I’m hoping to get back to the grind of job hunting, unpacking, and writing- now in my new office. It’s also going to be my first day of a ten day caffeine detox, which is likely to be rough, but will be good for me. So I’d better get a good night’s sleep. So on that note, I’m off to bed.
