Sunshiny Day

It’s going to be a lot of cat photos for a while.

The day seemed to involve an unnatural amount of sunlight, thanks to Daylight Savings Time. Yesterday, on a whim… or possibly in a moment of retail therapy, I bought a pair of dollar store sunglasses. Today I needed them. They aren’t dark, but the make the world look warm even after the sun has set.

Los Angeles didn’t need much help staying warm either- temperatures good into the high eighties and maybe the nineties. A day of sudden summer. Everything about this year seems to be fast and happen abruptly. Reality, of course, has no obligation to follow narrative structure, and occasionally the sudden reversals and twists of fate can seem surreal.

On a more prosaic level, the cat had a good day: he lounged in a sun spot and accepted the sudden uptick in human adulation with feline aplomb. Hungrily devoured canned pumpkin to support healthy bowel movement and healthily moved his bowels as a result. He took his medicine. He seemed to be himself for another day.

I only got teary at the end of the day when I got tired and the beer kicked in. The time left feels like it too is moving too fast, and if I stop and think too long about just how short it is and how close that inevitable future is coming I start leaking from the eyes.

Other than that, I too had a good and productive day around the house: worked on some artwork, worked on my writing, Skyped with the nieces, generally made progress on small fronts. I suppose that’s the best I can hope to do for a while, but it’s better than nothing.
