Casino Dreams

Tokyo gets me…
It sounds very exciting, doesn’t it? Casino Dreams… Like the title of some eighties movie soaked in neon and smoke. But no, it’s not that kind of dream. Instead, it refers to the litany of complex, detailed dreams that lately I’ve been getting all night long. I wake up exhausted, feeling like I’ve been trapped in a casino all night long full of dinging bells and flashing lights and high stakes gambles

Lately, sleep has not been very restful for me. I have no good excuse for this: the house is back in order, at last, and we had a very pleasant, low-key holiday weekend. I even went running several more times than I usually do: if anything, I should be sleeping like a baby right now.

I blame the heat, although I don’t really know whether that is making any difference. We’ve been in the middle of a heat wave with temperatures over a hundred degrees for days on end: summer’s last blast now that fall is starting to show its colors… So to speak.

In true form, the first day back to work after the long Labor Day weekend is proving to be a challenge. The payroll system lasted for thirty minutes before seizing up like a bad engine, so now there’s ten payrolls on my desk and nothing to do about them but wait for the system to get up and running again. I have artwork that needs doing and writing that is calling my name, but I can’t seem to get up the gumption to work on them right this minute. I’m hoping that the fact that the week is getting off to a rough start means that it will turn around and finish strong. A girl can hope.
