Plank Step Plank

I’ve started walking the last leg of my daily commute. Now, instead of taking two buses and a train I just take two buses and then walk the rest of the way.

It adds about fifteen minutes to my commute each way, but all in all I think I’m saving time since otherwise I’d have to conjure all the way home and then have to spend half an hour to an hour of my precious free time working out. So on the whole I think it’s a sustainable new habit. That’s the goal, anyway, to make it a habit. I’ve even activated one of those obnoxious Step Counter apps to see how close I can get to my goal each day. I’ve become one of those people.

I also decided to try to do a thirty day plank challenge. “Plank” in this case, being a kind of static pushup instead of the 2012 meme of lying flat on your face and having someone take a picture for you to post online. The exercises don’t require special clothes or equipment, and I can get them done in under five minutes. I can spare five minutes, right? I hope. I’m writing about it here to hold myself accountable for completing all thirty days. So far I’m on day two. My abs are killing me.

I need all the help I can get. Now that I’m eating sweetsagain, the good people of my office doubled down on the treats: donuts in the morning AND cake (two kinds) in the afternoon. I went ahead and indulged, but the sugar-coaster is real, y’all. Depression tastes delicious.

Anyway, by the end of the day I was glad to have the excuse to walk to balance myself out again before going home. Hopefully it’ll be the start of something positive.
