Challenge Completed


I mean, technically there is one last challenge that I still need to do to complete the 30 day plank challenge. The only reason that I haven’t done it is because it takes more space than I usually have on the bedroom floor where I usually attempt the daily challenge before going to bed.

And I gotta admit: it’s made a visible difference. The promise of delivering a ‘beach bod’ was not an empty one- although I’ll still require a bucket of sunscreen before any of this bod makes it onto a beach. Anywhere. Ever.

I’m actually feeling pretty good about myself right now. And it’s a rare feeling so I’m just going to wallow in it for a minute. I’ve taken off about five pounds. I can see muscular definition in my legs, torso, and arms. I feel good and I haven’t been miserable because of the lifestyle changes that I made, which I hope means that they are sustainable. Here are the changes that I’ve made:

  • Walk the final leg of my commute both ways each day (approx 2.5mi).
  • Do a 30 day plank challenge.
  • Fast for 24 hours on Fridays.

And it has made all the difference. So far. I’m given to understand that it takes about ninety days to actually form a new habit, so if I want this to become a permanent change then I’ll need to keep it up for another two months. But it’s nice to see results so soon.

I’ve also learned that there are a few areas of my body that really need some dedicated attention: specifically my upper body and arms. The days in which the plank challenge required pushups, tricep pushups, army crawls, or up-downs nearly killed me. I’m ashamed to admit that I actually failed to complete many of those challenges as actually written: the pushups I had to do from my knees, the army crawls I could only do for about thirty seconds, instead of forty five or sixty, etc. So maybe I’ll give the whole challenge a second round and see if I can do it better this time.
