In a quest to see how the other half lives, The Curmudgeonly Lion and I have swapped chores for a week: I will be in charge of grocery shopping and preparing dinners and her will be in charge of the laundry, dishes and cleaning house. We each believe our own chore load to be the heaviest: him because meal prep and cooking is a daily need, and me because trying to clean the whole house and do all the laundry takes up the whole weekend: my only real free time due to long commute times.

Who knows, maybe we’ll decide to change it up for good, having discovered that the other persons workload really is more favorable than our own, or maybe we will discover how good we had it and be relieved to settle back into our old roles. But either way, I think the exercise will help us to gain some perspective.

Today we eased into the transition: he still cooked dinner, but I did the grocery shopping and planned the meals for the week. He also did a loaf of laundry ahs cleaned the living room. We did not fight about it once: at this point we’re still bound and determined to be so very happy to be doing the ‘easier’ work, that no one wants to be the first to complain. So there’s that, if nothing else. Tomorrow begins the first whole week: we’ll see how it goes.
