Left Day

Apparently today is Left Handers Day. I don’t know who decides all these holidays or why they choose August thirteenth for a holiday celebrating left handedness, but hey: in these complicated times I’m not going to turn down an excuse to celebrate.

And there was cake.

The cake was not related to Left Handers Day, the cake was a combination birthday-and-anniversary cake celebrating a co-worker who had been at the company where I work for seventeen years.

I hope I never get a cake for being at this company for seventeen years.

Admittedly, the spiral of angst that consumed me at the beginning of the summer has subsided somewhat into a dull roar in the back of my mind, which is a tremendous relief. I’m not exactly certain what changed, although I’ve been making a concerted effort to get out of my comfort zone and to meet new people in order to make new friends, so maybe that has been enough. I’m back into a rhythm on my writing. I’m feeling much more confident in introducing myself and my work at social events.

Progress.

I’ll take what I can get.
