Cheese Week

Wait, what day is it?

It’s the week between Christmas and New Year’s when nobody knows what day of the week it is and everybody is confused and full of cheese. It’s a disorienting and unproductive time full of rich food and socializing. I’m doing the best that I can, but every day I need a little bit more time alone just to feel like myself, and all I can do is hope that the in laws will forgive me for disappearing periodically into my shell.

It’s been great to be back in Chicago. The weather has been appropriately miserable. Family and friends have been appropriately enthusiastic to see us. The party just hasn’t stopped. I’ve attended hockey matches and family lunches and played raucous games of Family Feud with the niblings. My poor guts don’t know which end is up from all the food.

I’ll be glad when the new year starts and I can get back home into some kind of a routine. Only three days left…
