Be Now

One of the Curmudgeonly Lion’s co-workers invited us to her new place for a house warming party. I was interested to go for the chance to meet his co-workers in general; having heard a lot about them from the stories of his workaday life. They were either all on their best behavior, or they were all lovely people, and most of them brought beer, which counts for a lot when socializing.

We didn’t bring beer, or a plant- which would have been the traditional housewarming gift. Instead, we brought our fire pit. Because dang nabbit we were going to warm that house up. Also because nothing brings people together quite like gathering around a fire. And it worked like a charm: everybody spent much of the evening circled around the fire eating chicken curry (OMG THIS CHICKEN CURRY, YOU GUYSSZZZ!!!) and drinking interesting beers from small, local breweries. It was nice to just be present, and focus on the moment.

Go, and be Now. As the Curmudgeonly Lion says.

And then go home smelling like smoke. Because, of course.

We got home late, and since I’d just spent the day fasting, the beer hit me pretty hard, so I didn’t end up getting up at the crack of dawn to go running like I’d planned. Instead, I kinda dragged myself out of bed around eight and knocked around trying to get myself organized in time to take the cat to the vet for an annual checkup. The checkup was routine and uneventful, but kinda took up the morning, and I had plans to meet a friend for coffee in the early afternoon which turned out to be a nice visit.

The weather had turned warm and spring-like and we sat outside in the low afternoon light watching beautiful people go by and talking about life, the universe, and everything. Afterwards we hung out for a bit eating Tex-Mex chili (OMG THIS CHILI YOU GUYYYSSSSSS!!!) that involved a profusion of meat and a surprising paucity of beans. In true food-coma style, I spent a long time afterwards just kind of drifting in a state of not-sleep enjoying the feel of warm air and a full stomach and trying not to let my thoughts run in their usual loops of To Do. It was nice to just focus on the moment.

Go, and be Now.

And then go home and watch Star Wars. Because, of course.

So all in all it has been a good weekend so far, but now Sunday has a lot to live up to. Just sayin’: the bar has been set.
