Gray Sky Blues

The weekend was one filled with adventure and good cheer, but it was clear in the earliest hours of the morning, that Monday was not going to follow the trend. The sky was low and gray with spitting rain, and at every turn things seemed predisposed to go just slightly wrong: I was on the wrong side of the street to catch the bus when it went by. Not one bus, but two buses. The bus I did manage to catch had a technical issue with a door forcing everybody onto a third bus… I had to train a new temp for the reception desk. The temp I share an office with was blissfully, blessedly, out sick in the morning, but somehow managed to rally enough to appear at lunchtime on all her coffee-slurping, chip-eating, monologuing glory for the remainder of the afternoon… You get the idea. Small annoyances building up on a very short fuse.

I decided it would be a good day to stay away from social media. I was in another one of those I’d-better-cool-down-for-24-hours moods, so I logged out of Facebook and Twitter.

The world is surprisingly quiet without social media.

It did help, somewhat.

The morning was spent performing literal data entry; filling in line after line of timecard data into a spreadsheet. It was pleasantly Zen. I gradually worked myself back into a tenuous state of tranquility, stopping briefly during the afternoon to walk to the store to buy chocolate and get some sunlight.

Now I’m on my way home hoping that this careful sense of balance will last through the evening.
