Basket Case

Not that I NEED another project, but I saw a video on how to make a basket out of pine needles that looked pretty cool. And it just so happened that when I went to pick up my library books there was a branch of fallen pine needles that looked just about right. So here I am: Basket weaving in quarantine.

That little coil you see in the picture represents a couple hours of work. According to the video, you’re not supposed to use green needles (instead you’re supposed to use dry ones and soak them in hot water to make them bendy. I figured that I was just going to make this one as a test run to see if I even like the process. So far it’s tedious and not very satisfying because I don’t have much to show for my work, but I’m not giving up yet.

After writing so intensely over the past few days, I put aside the writing today to try to clear my palate a bit: Which probably explains why I’m now making baskets or of pine needles. Truly: a writer without a project is a basket case.
